DO YOU ALREADY KNOW THE TPMS SYSTEM?

THE NEW EUROPEAN REGULATION FOR YOUR SEMI-TRAILER.

This new legislation will make it compulsory to install the Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) on all newly registered semi-trailers weighing more than 3.5tn. July 7, 2024, is the exact date when the extended European standard ECE-R141.01 will come into force.

How does TPMS work?

  • – Sensors in each wheel: These sensors measure pressure accurately and constantly.
  • – Real-time information: Receives up-to-date data on the pressure of each tyre on the vehicle.
  • – Early warnings: If the pressure drops dangerously low, the system alerts you immediately so you can take action.

In the case of Tisvol semi-trailers, this sensor is attached to each of the tyres via a fastening strap and is equipped with a battery that lasts for 5 years and updates the information by radio every minute.

If the vehicle also has a Smartboard, the system will be able to measure the tyre pressure and temperature and identify from which of the sensors the information comes from.

This new regulation, as well as aiming to improve road safety and transport efficiency, also seeks to:

  • -Reduce fuel consumption: A reduction in tyre pressure results in an increase in diesel consumption of up to 2%.
  • – Increase tyre life: A 15% variation in recommended tyre pressure can reduce tyre life by up to 10%.
